Description district: Center - City

City or the old city center (Breda Centrum) in the oldest part of Breda. This particularly atmospheric part of the city consists of many old and often historic buildings. There are many streets with pedestrian areas. Vehicle traffic has been reduced as much as possible. The limited area, which is almost completely built-up around a number of squares, is intensively used for working, living, recreation, shopping, catering and cultural experiences. The housing supply is mainly aimed at singles, 2-person households and students. In order to reduce the vacancy of spaces above shops, the municipality wants to promote living above the shops and give the neighborhood more of a residential function. Approximately 1,700 people live in the city center.

District description: Center - Chasse

The Chasse neighborhood (Breda Centrum) consists of two parts with a completely different atmosphere. East of the Vierwindenstraat you will find the Zuidpoort-Passage with a number of residential streets behind it. The Zuidpoortpassage borders the Nieuwe Ginnekenstaat and the van Cootplein. This part has a lot of atmosphere thanks to the shops, restaurants, terraces and the architecture of historic Breda. In addition, there is a somewhat older inner city neighborhood with many small streets. West of the Vierwindenstaat is the spacious Chassé Park (approx. 13 hectares) with 'living parks and squares'. This is a new residential area with approximately 600 owner-occupied homes and 100 rental properties. A number of high-rise buildings with so-called (park) apartments have been built. On the edge of the Chassé Park, the former Monastery barracks and the Holland Casino are located. On the other side is the pop temple Mezz. More than 2600 people live in Chasse.

Description district: Center - Fellenoord

The former working-class neighborhood of Fellenoord (Centrum Breda) was completely rebuilt in the 1980s; the living area is densely built-up. There is a clear separation between the non-renovated part and the area whose homes were replaced by new construction in the 1980s as part of urban renewal. In this neighborhood you can still see (parts of) streets with a beautiful historic appearance. In Fellenoord there are strong family ties and a strong neighborhood bond. Description district: Center - Schorsmolen

The neighborhood Schorsmolen (Breda Centrum) can be divided into two parts. These parts have a completely different atmosphere, namely the lively and atmospheric Haagdijk, with many shops and here and there beautiful historic buildings. This street opens onto the very atmospheric harbor of Breda and the historic city center. The other part consists of a densely built-up residential area. This inner city neighborhood is dominated by large medium-high housing complexes, built in the 1990s. This part has a stony appearance due to the lack of green areas and the many high-rise buildings. There is little social bonding in this part of the neighbourhood. Many residents in Schorsmolen fall under the category of 'starters', which gives the neighborhood the character of a through-flow neighbourhood. Schorsmolen has the highest percentage of single people in Breda (65%) and many two-person households. Schorsmolen has approximately 2,900 inhabitants.
